Free resources for drummers

There are a lot of free resources on the internet to help drummers. Here are a few of my favourites.

Groove Scribe

This is a great free on-line tool for creating grooves and fills with a simple interface. There are also some pre-programmed grooves to inspire you.

Note Flight

I use NoteFlight all the time to write out drum fills and grooves using drum notation. You have to sign up and the free version is limited to 10 projects but the interface is very powerful, once you have mastered the basics.

Vic Firth.Com

There are some great teachers in the world and some of the greatest work for Vic Firth. This is a superb site to find new ideas and inspiration. Their on-line live stream events are well worth a watch.

The Rhythm Randomizer

Put your sight-reading to the test with this simple website. The Rhythm Randomizer (with a “z”. It’s American) creates patterns of notes, from two to eight bars long for you to practice. You can set the levels of difficulty by selecting the types of notes used from simple crochets and quavers to syncopated triplets. Give it a go.

If you know of any other free resources for drummers or have a favourite website for free stuff, or any other recommendations then please let me know and I’ll share them with the other drummers I meet.
